... The children are aged from babies to 6 years old, and
are recognised as needy due to their backgrounds of broken
or violent homes, parents with drug or alcohol addictions,
and children from very poor backgrounds. There are more than
one hundred facilities which run the length of the country
from Arica in the North, to Punto Arenas in the South.
You
can make a difference to world poverty by buying products
that display the World Equity logo and telling your friends
to do the same. Help us reduce poverty and create a better,
more equitable world.
La Casa Acogida Lactantes Grada
This facility is a transitional and diagnostic residential home for children under 2 years old. It provides and cares for 25-30 babies at a time and up to 120 annually. These babies come from a background of extreme poverty and have been placed with the home due to neglect, maltreatment, an unsafe home environment or because they have been abandoned. The aim of this organisation is to reunite the families where possible otherwise these children are adopted.
World Equity's support for this home will provide much needed new cribs. The sides of the existing cribs are too low and as such unsafe. Babies between 8 to 14 months that have stood up or jumped in their cribs have fallen. We will be supporting the purchase of 6 new cribs with high sides to replace the existing cribs so as to keep the babies safe from harm.
